Examination Platform
A large-scale online examination platform supporting thousands of concurrent learners with secure assessment, proctoring, and operational tooling for the University Platform in Africa.
Overview
The examination platform is part of Miva University's broader edtech stack. It supports online assessments for learners at scale, alongside the learning management and content delivery systems the engineering team maintains.
The Challenge
Running high-stakes exams online introduces constraints around scale, reliability, security, and operational complexity. Peak load during exam windows, secure delivery, and tooling for staff and learners all need to work together without compromising the student experience.
My Role
- Lead engineering and technical direction for examination-related systems
- Architect scalable workflows for assessment delivery and supporting services
- Work on reliability, performance, and operational visibility for critical paths
- Collaborate with product, design, and other engineers on user-centered features
- Help establish engineering standards and team practices on the platform

Portal and Learner experience
Designed and built the examination platform foundation end-to-end from the ground up, shaping the core portal architecture and learner experience to deliver intuitive, reliable, and scalable workflows across the entire examination journey.

Exam security
Contributing to secure examination delivery and Safe Exam Browser (SEB) integration, ensuring exam integrity and a high level of platform security.

Proctoring
Building browser-based monitoring and evidence collection workflows and integrated with SEB, including camera and audio proctoring for secure online examinations.

Engineering & Internship Training
Regular training and mentorship focused on practical engineering skills, best practices, and hands-on experience.

Scalability
Working on systems with core exam team to designed to handle large concurrent exam workloads and burst traffic during exam windows.

Introducing queue-based processing, monitoring, and operational tooling for critical examination workflows.
